Does your family have a favorite petro-chemical company? You know, the company from which you buy your household products: soap, shampoo, lotion, laundry detergent, dish washing liquid, bathroom cleanser, deodorant, toilet paper, make-up, snack foods, plastic wrap, and so on. I’ll admit to having our own favorite brands. In fact, we used to make frequent trips to our nearest big-box discount retailer to stock up. But, over the past year, we’ve been switching our household product purchases to more earth-friendly products. In doing so, we were also able to switch our purchasing from the big-box retailer to our smaller, closer-to-home grocery-type stores.
Last month, however, with the holiday shopping congestion, I was more determined than ever not to visit our nearest mall. “Unfortunately”, this also meant avoiding the closest big-box discount retailer because it is located at the mall. That’s when I decided to try eco-friendly toilet paper! When I considered the extra mileage and time required to pick up the bulk package from the big-box store, the possible additional pennies spent at our much closer-to-home grocery store (Trader Joe’s) for eco-friendly TP seemed very worthwhile!
No regrets! I didn’t stop with the TP, I’ve also picked up chlorine bleach free paper towels and facial tissue packs which are made from recycled paper. We already use vegetable-based laundry detergent and Tom’s toothpaste and antiperspirant/deodorant. Items I used to buy from the big-box store.
Next on my list is eliminating the petro-chems from our lotion and shampoos. Do you have a favorite all natural product to recommend for extra-dry skin?
Dear Sister,
I use and distribute a wonderful set of products called, Melaleuca. They are all extremely eco-friendly. As well, their ingredients are all based on the purest form of Tea-Tree. Their lotion- Renew- in the white and blue bottle- is known the world over for its ability to address eczema. Many African American families use it for their children and have seen incredible results. I totally encourage you to visit their site: melaleuca.com
I know you will enjoy their products. I no longer shop in any stores for washing detergent, deodorant, lotion, shampoo, etc. It saves time, gasoline, and money.
All the best!
Joi
Joi, thank you for the note and reminder about Melaleuca. I’ve used Melaleuca in the past and very much enjoyed their tea! Currently, I’m using Dr. Bronner’s Pure-Castile Soap with Hemp and Tea Tree extract as a hand soap and also as a shampoo. Using it as a shampoo is particularly helpful for dry hair.
