Here’s a review of the sustainable choices I made in January 2009.
- Switched web hosting to Sustainablewebsites.com
- Purchased toilet paper, paper towels and facial wipes made from 100% recycled paper – from SeventhGeneration.com and Trader Joe’s
- Switched our energy provider to purchase 100% wind power through our local Clean Energy program. You can check with your local energy provider, state or county for clean energy options or visit Native Energy.
- Gave cloth pads a try…beware, not for the squeamish. But if you use cloth diapers, why not try it at least once in 2009. For a quick and easy version try this site: http://hillbillyhousewife.com/sanitarypads.htm, or purchase some really cool designs here along with other worthwhile items: manymoonsalternatives.com
- Made my first batch of petro-chemical free body lotion! It’s totally easy and cost-effective. All I needed is water, oil, and an emulsifier such as beeswax. Here are a few recipes: www.happynews.com, pioneerthinking.com, www.craftbits.com, www.ehow.com
- Made shaving soap for my husband using a melt-and-pour organic oil based soap from GoPlanetEarth.com Here’s how: Shaving Soap Recipe I used the leftover soap to make bath bars for the kids too.
I’m excited about what January offered and I’m looking forward to February! Made some cool sustainable choices in 2009? We’d love to know about them.
