Ah, the boys were heading out of town so it was just Daughter and Me for the day! In classic girly fashion, it was a day for spring shopping. The first stop was Payless Shoe Store to check out their new line of Zoe&Zac eco-friendly shoes. Taking advantage of the buy-one-get-one half-off deal, we both walked out with some pretty organic cotton Mary Janes. Now, that we had shed our winter boots, and our toes were comfy for shopping it was time to get to business!
I had been planning this little Girls’ Outing ever since I spotted the book, Taking Care of Your Girls, on the bookstore shelf. Ladies, Moms, this is a wonderful book full of everything you ever wanted to know or didn’t even know you didn’t know about your “girls” and how to love them. Though the book is written with pre-teens in mind, I found it quite informative and bought a copy to take home to share. The authors are a Mom/Daughter pair and they have a companion website to go along with the book: www.takingcareofyourgirls.com. Be sure to check out the Think Pink, Live Green Tips too.
Reading the book reminded me of the importance of knowing how to comfortably attire your girls. Do you know your size? Have you had your girls professionally sized? There was a time (not oh so long ago) when a woman could walk into a department store and ask the assistant in the lingerie department for sizing and fitting advice and assistance. Unfortunately, these days it is not always easy to find one of these helpful ladies. I did not want to spend our Girls’ Outing waiting for someone to be called into the lingerie department from housewares…
A co-worker, however, recommended a surprising option – a corset shop! I reminded said co-worker of who would be accompanying me on this outing and her age, and she assured me that I would be going to the right place for professional, tasteful advice. It turns out she was right. The staff at Dor-ne Corsette Shoppe were courteous and understanding. This gem of a store has been serving women’s undergarment needs since 1932! While they certainly had the fancy and frilly, they also had a conservative selection (particularly appropriate for a young lady) that I would not have found at the local department store. Both of us walked out feeling comfortable, confident, and better informed on fitting our girls. Thank you Noelle for the recommendation!
