How Does Your Garden Grow?

It’s Take Action Tuesday!

The weather in my neck of the woods was fantastic this weekend. After a rainy week, the warm sunny weather was much appreciated and perfect for getting dirt under the nails…ah, the joys of gardening!

Did you hear about our First Lady’s ORGANIC garden? I’ve not been down town DC yet, but I’m hoping I will be able to get a glimpse. Michelle Obama partnered with a local elementary school to return a portion of the White House lawn to producing edibles. This hadn’t been done since, Eleandore Rosevelt’s Victory Garden – that would be around World War II! I would have thought the only significant complaint would have been that the well manicured lawn would be marred by a vegetable garden. Boy was I wrong! No, the overwhelming complaint was that First Lady Michelle Obama intends to feed her family and other White House guests vegetables from her garden that were grown without [dramatic pause] CHEMICALS! Gasp! For shame, for shame!

Yes, I’m afraid it is true, there was a concerted effort by the Mid America CropLife Association (MACA) to decry such obviously un-American behavior. Yes, Ladies and Gentleman there are those who want the world to believe that it is un-American to dare feed our children produce that hasn’t been harvested from crops “grown” from fertilizers and pesticides produced by our very own native Chemical Industry.

So, what can we do on this Take-Action Tuesday? Well, I’m a little bit behind on keeping up with the news and my inbox, but here’s a petition to let MACA know how you feel, they already have 108,000+ signatures! Next, claim a little bit of land, or a patio container to grow your own organic edibles too. Better still, partner with your local elementary school to share the joy of gardening. Then, you can answer this call from the Gardian to share your garden photos and maybe win a copy of the book, Notes From The Garden. I like that title!

Happy Digging!

About Sister Notes

I'm a sister, mother, cousin, and aunt. My family and friends are spread all over and it seems we rarely make the time to connect with each other. I hope that by blogging we can connect and share those little tidbits and life lessons that keep us going each day!
